All about sinus massage
Sinus massage is a natural remedy for sinus infections that has its roots in ancient Chinese holistic medicine. There are a few different methods of massaging the sinuses, and all of them can relieve and prevent sinus problems and congestion. The basic sinus massage is very easy to do.
Techniques
All techniques of sinus massage involve acupressure points and rubbing areas that gently remove pressure. One method involves massing the forehead and cheeks with small circles. Just start with the center of the nose and go upwards and around. Look for the notch that’s just hair or two away from your nose under the ridge of the eyebrow. Use both thumbs on either side and gently apply pressure to that notch for 10 seconds. Release the pressure and then repeat it three times. Then move outward a hair and do the same thing.
With your middle fingers, apply new pressure at the top of your nose between your eyebrows. Then apply pressure just under the cheekbone. Massage with small circles along the jawbone from the ear to the chin. Focus on relaxing the muscles in the face.
Another technique involves using the palm of one hand to rub the tip of your nose in a circular motion. Do this about 20 times in one direction, and then switch directions and go the other way. This technique is great for both preventing and treating sinus infections, and you can do it several times per day.
Acupressure
Another method for massaging away sinus problems involves acupressure points on the head. Start by putting your hands on your head with your thumbs right in the depression that’s at the bottom of your skull. Your other fingers should fall into place on the top and sides of your head. Press into these acupressure points gently and rub for a couple of minutes. Acupressure can also be used several times per day to relieve sinus problems and prevent them.
Reminders and tips
Some parts of the face are especially sensitive, especially while you have a sinus infection. These areas will definitely need a massage, but be very careful when you do it. There’s no need to purposely cause yourself pain.
Before you begin your massage, try rubbing your hands together to help warm them up.
Other methods for reliving sinus pressure
There are also plenty of other natural ways to reduce sinus pressure. One way is to flush your sinuses out with saltwater. You’ll have to make a solution out of warm water, salt, and baking soda. Use about three parts salt and one part baking soda to make a solution. Then add a half teaspoon of that to a half cup of warm water. Next just slowly drop it into one nostril, rubbing it carefully as it goes in. The mixture should run right out the other nostril as you do this, making a complete pathway through your sinuses to provide relief, reduce inflammation, and clear your passageways.
